Independent Intervention

An Award-winning Documentary about the US Media coverage of the war in Iraq

INDEPENDENT INTERVENTION shows how a Norwegian filmmaker in the United States questions the US media coverage of the war in Iraq. The film investigates important issues that govern today’s information flow, and looks at how this system reveals itself during times of war and political turmoil. As the major US networks remove human suffering from their presentation of war, Operation Iraqi Freedom is portrayed as a success for the spread of democracy and freedom. This film brings awareness to the disparity between the war the American people see through the corporate controlled media and the realities on the ground in Iraq. INDEPENDENT INTERVENTION explores how the growing media democracy movement in the US works to challenge the mass media.

INDEPENDENT INTERVENTION features Amy Goodman, Noam Chomsky, Dahr Jamail, Danny Schechter, Norman Solomon, David Barsamian, Kalle Lasn, James Zogby and Jim Hightower. It also includes the voices of Howard Zinn, Michael Moore, Bill Moyers, Arundhati Roy, Jeremy Scahill, US Senators and Iraqi people.

Dahr Jamail and Jeremy Scahill in a gripping lecture that they gave together in Sacramento, CA on March 14, 2006. Some of the highlights include Dahr Jamail’s concise and damning account of US war crimes in Iraq, and Jeremy’s ferocious and precise detailing of the deadly war that the US is waging today on journalism in Iraq.

This is by far the best lecture video yet hosted on the DahrJamailIraq website. The video was professionally produced and edited for MediaEdge. Many thanks for their excellent job!

Correction to “Negroponte’s ‘Serious Setback'” Story

In my recent posting of a piece entitled “Negroponte’s ‘Serious Setback’” which I wrote for Truthout.org, I wrote a somewhat misleading parallel between US missionaries in Honduras and the Christian Peacemaker Team in Iraq.

I wrote: “Victims also included US missionaries (similar to Christian Peacemaker Teams in Iraq) who happened to witness many of the atrocities.”

The work CPT does in Iraq in in no way, shape or form missionary work. There is no missionary work whatsoever done by CPT in Iraq or any other place where they operate. They are in Iraq to observe and record, and they were involved in documenting human rights abuses at American-run prisons when the hostages were taken.
